On the morning of October 21, 2026, Ukrainian media and Telegram channels actively spread information that the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyy, had allegedly submitted his resignation letter against the backdrop of investigative actions carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) on the regulator's premises. The National Bank officially denied these rumors, emphasizing that the head of the institution has not submitted a resignation letter and continues to perform his duties.
Investigative Actions at the NBU and an Employee's Residence
NABU reported that the bureau's detectives, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), conducted investigative actions on the premises of the National Bank of Ukraine, as well as at the residence of one of the regulator's employees. The bureau specifically emphasized that no one was detained during the operation, and no notices of suspicion of committing a criminal offense were served. According to NABU representatives, the remaining details of the case are not being disclosed as part of the pre-trial investigation.
Response from the National Bank
The National Bank confirmed the fact that investigative actions were carried out on its premises and stated that the institution continues to operate normally. The regulator added that additional explanations regarding the situation will be provided after all procedural actions are completed. Thus, the NBU distanced itself from the versions circulating in the media space regarding personnel reshuffles at the top of the bank.
Who is Andriy Pyshnyy
Andriy Pyshnyy has headed the National Bank of Ukraine since October 2022. His appointment was voted for by 290 members of the Verkhovna Rada. Before his appointment to the NBU, he managed Oschadbank for almost nine years, having joined it in 2014. In the past, Pyshnyy also worked in the banking sector, served as Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and was a Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the 7th convocation.
Context: Previous Scandals Surrounding the Regulator
The investigative actions at the NBU come against the backdrop of a series of high-profile cases related to the Ukrainian banking sector. Previously, Pyshnyy had already denied statements made at the Verkhovna Rada's Temporary Investigative Commission regarding an alleged recommendation from the former head of Sens Bank, Dmytro Veselyi. Thus, the current situation adds to a series of public proceedings affecting the leadership of Ukraine's central bank.
