On October 21, 2026, National Bank of Ukraine Governor Andriy Pyshnyy publicly commented on the searches conducted by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) at his residence. In a statement published on Facebook and reported by RBC-Ukraine, Pyshnyy emphasized that the investigative actions have nothing to do with either the regulator's activities or his personal work as head of the National Bank.
Searches, according to Pyshnyy, are linked to another case
According to the NBU head, based on a court ruling, the relevant criminal proceedings concern other circumstances and other individuals. Pyshnyy noted that the searches revealed nothing that could indicate the commission of offenses by him or any NBU employees. Thus, he effectively separated NABU's investigative interest from the institutional functions of the central bank.
Readiness for cooperation and emphasis on the regulator's independence
The head of the National Bank stated his support for the work of anti-corruption bodies and expressed readiness for full cooperation with the investigation within the framework of the law. At the same time, he urged preserving the independence of the NBU, which, in his phrasing, is ensured not only by freedom from external influence but also by mutual respect between institutions and strict compliance with legislation.
Pyshnyy continues to perform his duties as NBU Governor
In his address, Pyshnyy explicitly stated that he continues to fulfill his duties as Governor of the National Bank. This statement came against the backdrop of online reports regarding his alleged resignation, which RBC-Ukraine sources at the NBU denied.
NABU's position: no arrests or suspicions announced
As recalled in the same reports, on October 21 it became known that NABU detectives were conducting searches at the NBU chief's home. The anti-corruption agency itself stated that no one was detained and no suspicions were announced during the investigative actions. The combination of these statements indicates that the searches were investigative checks within criminal proceedings unrelated, according to Pyshnyy, to his official functions.
