The National Bank of Ukraine has updated official exchange rates for Friday, October 30, 2026. According to the regulator, both major currencies—the US dollar and the euro—continue to decline compared to the previous banking day. The official exchange rate of the American currency is set at 45.52 hryvnias, which is 7 kopecks lower than the figure on Thursday, October 29, when the dollar cost 45.59 UAH. The European currency has also fallen in price: the euro exchange rate for October 30 stands at 50.67 UAH, losing 9 kopecks over the day (compared to 50.76 UAH the day before).
Exchange Rate Dynamics: From Historical Highs to Correction
Current figures fit into the broader context of currency dynamics in the autumn of 2026. On October 14, the dollar set its then-prevailing historical maximum of 45.08 UAH according to the NBU's official rate. By the end of the month, the American currency's rate rose to 45.59 UAH (October 29) before correcting to 45.52 UAH. The euro, in turn, reached a record 52.25 UAH on August 24 and dropped to 50.67 UAH by the end of October, indicating a more pronounced correction of the European currency compared to its summer peak. Thus, from mid-October to the 30th, the dollar strengthened amid seasonal demand growth, while the euro demonstrates a downward trend.
NBU Reserves and Intervention Volume
According to experts, the National Bank of Ukraine remains the key factor curbing excessive fluctuations in the foreign exchange market. Taras Lesovyi, Director of the Financial Markets and Investment Activity Department at Globus Bank, explained in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine that the regulator continues to sell currency from its own reserves to restrain anomalous demand. As of early October 2026, the NBU's international reserves stood at $47.1 billion, an amount sufficient for about four months of imports, according to the expert. Earlier in mid-October, Lesovyi noted that the volume of the regulator's currency interventions had grown by 30–35% over two months—from approximately $0.9 billion to $1.2 billion per week, highlighting the NBU's active role in rate stabilization.
International Support as an Additional Stabilizer
In addition to internal reserves, external financial support plays a significant role in maintaining the hryvnia's stability. By the end of 2026, Ukraine expects to receive about $27 billion more in international assistance from partners. According to Taras Lesovyi, the combination of existing reserves, support from international donors, and active actions by the National Bank should help curb significant currency market fluctuations and prevent sharp exchange rate shocks in the coming months.
What to Expect from the Market in the Coming Weeks
The Globus Bank expert does not expect sharp exchange rate shocks in the near future, but emphasizes that the stability of the hryvnia increasingly depends on the NBU's currency interventions. Seasonal demand growth for foreign currency due to the approach of the winter period and preparations for New Year holidays, as well as ongoing military risks, continue to exert pressure on the rate. Nevertheless, the current level of reserves and expected inflows of foreign aid create a sufficient buffer to maintain relative stability in Ukraine's currency market until the end of the year.
