The National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rates for Friday, September 18, 2026. According to the regulator, the US dollar rose in price, while the euro, conversely, fell. The difference between the two currencies continues to reflect the current dynamics of supply and demand in the domestic foreign exchange market, as well as the decisions on the policy rate that the NBU takes at its board meetings.

How much are the dollar and the euro worth at the NBU rate

The official dollar rate on September 18 is 44.66 hryvnias. Compared with the previous banking day, the US currency rose by 6 kopiykas. The official euro rate for Friday is set at 51.23 hryvnias: on the previous day the European currency was worth 51.44 hryvnias, meaning its rate fell by 21 kopiykas over the day. Thus, against the backdrop of a moderate strengthening of the dollar, the euro showed a more pronounced weakening.

What a banker says about financial monitoring

Apart from the exchange rate figures, the topic of financial monitoring remains in the spotlight. Serhiy Mamedov, President of the Association of Ukrainian Banks and Chairman of the Board of "Globus Bank," explained in a podcast that checking individual transactions under financial monitoring does not mean automatic blocking of an account or a prejudiced attitude toward the client. In his words, modern financial monitoring systems are largely automated: algorithms analyze transactions and flag financial behavior that is atypical for a given client. Additional scrutiny, in particular, may be triggered by a significant inflow of funds followed by its distribution across a large number of cards or other transactions that differ substantially from the usual use of the account.

How a client should respond to a bank's requests

"There are automatic algorithms that analyze the entire set of transactions passing through the bank. If there are any discrepancies, that transaction is moved for in-depth review," Mamedov explained. In such a situation, the bank is entitled to ask the client to explain the economic substance of the transaction or to provide documents confirming the source of funds. The banker advises not to ignore such inquiries, but to contact the bank as soon as possible via customer support, the mobile app, or other official channels and provide the necessary information.

Why the transparency of the source of funds is becoming more important

According to Mamedov, as Ukraine integrates into the European financial space, requirements for the transparency of the source of funds will carry increasing weight. Therefore, for those who are saving, investing, or conducting significant financial transactions, it is important to be able to confirm the source of their income. "You always need to think about how to explain where you earned the funds you plan to invest. These can be documentary confirmations of income from the sale of assets, the placement of deposits, a filed declaration, or salary received. And going forward, requirements regarding the source of funds will only become stricter," concluded the Chairman of the Board of "Globus Bank."
