On the night of September 12, 2026, a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle attacked a private residential area in Zaporizhzhia. According to preliminary data, the strike destroyed a residential building and triggered fires. This was reported by Ivan Fedorov, chairman of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council of Defense, as cited by RBC-Ukraine. As early as midnight, the city had been put on alert for the threat of strike drones, after which a drone hit the residential development.
Chronology of the night attack
According to the official statement, the UAV threat alert sounded in Zaporizhzhia around midnight. Shortly thereafter, a Russian drone struck a private residential area of the city. The impact caused fires and destruction: at least one house was destroyed. Rescue services worked at the scene, pulling people from under the rubble and handing them over to medical personnel for examination.
Casualties and aftermath
According to Ivan Fedorov, rescuers pulled the bodies of two victims from under the rubble — a 64-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man. A 59-year-old woman was injured, and her condition was being assessed by medical staff. Thus, according to official data at the time of publication, the attack killed two civilians and injured a third.
Series of strikes on the city
The night attack on September 12 was a continuation of a series of strikes on Zaporizhzhia over the past week. On September 11, Russia had already attacked the city with drones — a 32-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son were injured, and civilian facilities were damaged. On September 7, a Russian strike caused significant damage to the city's largest shopping and entertainment center, City Mall, whose owner promised to rebuild the facility despite it being "effectively destroyed." Even earlier, on September 5, drones struck Zaporizhzhia for more than two hours in a row: hits on residential buildings were recorded, and six people were injured.

Discrepancies in the details of the incident are noted in open sources. The official version of the Regional Council of Defense and the data from RBC-Ukraine describe a hit on a private residential house with two killed and one injured. At the same time, a number of publications (in particular, "Korrespondent") reported a drone strike on a vegetable stall in Zaporizhzhia with three injured. These discrepancies may reflect both differences in the points of impact and the nature of the objects, as well as the evolution of the data as information at the scene was refined.
