In the early hours of Monday, October 19, the armed forces of Russia launched drone strikes on the territory of the Khmelnytskyi and Lviv regions of Ukraine. According to regional authorities, the attack damaged both a civilian object — a church in the Shepetivka district — and a critical energy infrastructure facility in the Lviv region. No official information regarding casualties or injuries was reported at the time of publication.
Attack on the Church in Shepetivka District
Serhiy Tyurin, Head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, reported on his Telegram channel that a church in the Shepetivka district was damaged during the nighttime Russian drone attack. According to him, the building's facade, window openings, and bell tower sustained damage. Tyurin emphasized that «Russian monsters have nothing sacred» and noted that no information about dead or injured persons had been received by the time the message was published. The incident became another confirmation that during ongoing strikes on Ukrainian territory, not only military and industrial facilities, but also sites of religious and cultural significance come under fire.
Khmelnytskyi Region Energy System Operating on Backup Schemes
On the evening of October 19, Khmelnytskoblenergo reported that due to changes in the energy system's situation and the transition to backup operation schemes, power supply interruptions for consumers are possible in the region. The agency also indicated that active air raid alerts are delaying repair work, meaning the restoration of standard power supply may take longer than under normal conditions. This implies that even after shelling ceases, full restoration of power supply will require additional hours during which crews will not have access to a number of grid sections.
Critical Infrastructure Facility Attacked in Lviv Region
Maxim Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, reported that a Russian drone struck a critical energy infrastructure facility in the region. According to him, at the time of publication, there were no details regarding the nature of the damage and the scale of destruction, but the air raid alert in the Lviv region was still ongoing at that moment. Kozytskyi promised to provide additional information as data from the scene becomes available.
Situation in the Regions and Further Risks
Both regions affected by the nighttime attack remain on high alert. Ongoing air raid alerts limit the work of emergency and repair services, which, as Khmelnytskoblenergo notes, directly affects the timeframe for restoring power supplies. Neither in Khmelnytskyi nor in Lviv region were civilian casualties reported at the time of publication. Nevertheless, attacks on energy infrastructure in two regions simultaneously place an additional burden on the country's overall energy system and increase the risk of local outages in the coming hours.
