Night assault on energy infrastructure: three drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia and a massive attack on Sumy on the night of August 10, 2026

The night of August 10, 2026, became another test for Ukraine's infrastructure. As part of a massive attack, in which Russia used guided missiles and more than a hundred unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Shahed and Gerbera types, key facilities in the Zaporizhzhia and Sumy regions came under fire. Despite the active work of air defense forces, which managed to shoot down or suppress most targets, the enemy managed to damage critical infrastructure and residential areas.

Attack on Zaporizhzhia's power system: three strikes in one night

One of the priority directions of the night strike was the energy sector of the Zaporizhzhia region. As reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Andrey Stasevsky, head of Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo, on the night of Sunday, three drone strikes were launched at one of the energy facilities in the city of Zaporizhzhia itself. The target of the attack was a facility providing electricity to a significant part of the city's population and a number of critical infrastructure objects.

The situation at the scene was brought under control promptly. Duty crews of energy workers went to the scene immediately after the attack. Thanks to their coordinated actions, the damage was eliminated before dawn. Power supply was fully restored within an hour after the attack. "Therefore, the residents of Zaporizhzhia simply did not have time to feel the consequences of this attack," noted Andrey Stasevsky, emphasizing the effectiveness of the emergency services.

Total damage to infrastructure: 30 damages over the weekend

The night attack on Zaporizhzhia was only part of the massive pressure on the region's power system. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, energy workers in the region dealt with the consequences of a series of enemy strikes on the controlled territory. According to the head of Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo, a total of 30 equipment damages were recorded over these two days. This indicates a systematic attempt by the enemy to destabilize the operation of the power grid in the region, however, thanks to the prompt response, large-scale outages were avoided.

Tragedy in Sumy: KAB strikes on residential areas

While the fight for power supply was going on in Zaporizhzhia, the night attack in the Sumy region claimed lives and injured civilians. The enemy dropped aviation-guided bombs (KABs) on residential areas of the city. The strikes hit two districts of the city, as a result of which residential buildings were damaged. According to preliminary data, at least 10 people were injured. Rescue services carried out work to extract people from under the rubble, several injured people were taken to medical institutions.

Contradictory data

In the context of the night events in the Zaporizhzhia region, there are conflicting versions regarding the targets and results of the attack. The Ukrainian side, in particular the head of Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo, states that three drone strikes were launched specifically at an energy facility in the city of Zaporizhzhia, which was quickly restored. At the same time, Russian information sources (for example, materials published in the "SVO" segment) report that the Russian Armed Forces destroyed two logistical centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia.

These data create a discrepancy: on the one hand, it is about an attack on civilian infrastructure (energy), on the other — about hitting military logistics hubs. At the moment, it is impossible to unequivocally confirm whether the strikes on the energy sector were part of the cover for an attack on military facilities, or whether it is about two different incidents, which are covered by the parties from different positions. The lack of independent verified data on the exact coordinates of the hits leaves this question open.
