During a briefing, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha voiced Kyiv's tough stance regarding the potential deployment of North Korean missile units on Russian territory. The diplomat stated that in the event of the appearance of such formations, they would automatically become a legitimate military target for the Ukrainian armed forces.
A legitimate target for a strike
Sybiha emphasized that this is not just about diplomatic pressure, but about concrete military actions. "These systems, if deployed, must be destroyed. They immediately become a target, a legitimate target, a military target, so accordingly there will be a reaction from our military," RBC-Ukraine quotes the minister.
Official Kyiv relies on data from the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), which, according to the diplomat, usually confirms its accuracy. Sybiha noted that Ukraine is recording growing interaction between Moscow and Pyongyang, which causes serious concern.
A threat to the Indo-Pacific region
The Foreign Minister pointed out that the deepening ties between the Russian Federation and North Korea pose risks not only for Ukraine but also for global security, particularly for countries in the Indo-Pacific region. In this regard, Ukraine is actively coordinating its actions with allies, including Japan and South Korea, for whom this situation creates real threats.
Sybiha called on the international community to join forces to tighten sanctions and isolate the regime in Pyongyang. The goal of these actions should be to pressure Russia to end the war and stop the aggression.
Deployment in the Voronezh region
Against the backdrop of these statements, Western sources report the beginning of the deployment of a North Korean missile unit in western Russia. According to the GUR, a unit is being formed in the Voronezh region, the number of which could reach 90 servicemen. It will likely include six launchers armed with 120 ballistic missiles.
New missiles and the tragedy near Kryvyi Rih
Russia has likely already received a new batch of ballistic missiles from North Korea and has started using them more actively after a nearly year-long break. Reuters reports that Ukrainian radars detected traces corresponding to North Korean KN-23 or KN-24 models during an attack on a village near Kryvyi Rih.
As a result of this strike, a missile hit the home of a large family in the settlement of Radushne. The tragedy claimed the lives of the couple and their seven children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called this incident proof that the aggressor has joined forces with the "mad regime" of North Korea to obtain missiles and kill Ukrainian children.
