The Ukrainian vegetable market is witnessing a noticeable decline in selling prices for bulb onions. As of early October 2026, producers are forced to adjust their pricing policies downwards against the background of a clear imbalance between consumer demand and incoming supply volumes.

Price Dynamics and Current Market Realities

According to specialized analysts, Ukrainian farmers are currently ready to ship bulb onions at prices ranging from 9 to 15 hryvnias per kilogram. Compared to the end of last working week, the average cost has dropped by about 10%. The main reason for this shift was a contraction in purchasing activity while farms simultaneously increased sales volumes.

Impact of Weather Factors and Product Quality

The quality factor exerts significant pressure on pricing. Due to adverse weather conditions during the harvesting campaign, a significant portion of the harvest was damaged and lost its presentation as well as shelf-life potential. Farmers are striving to sell low-quality onions first, which leads to a drop in overall price indicators.

Farmers' Strategy and Annual Comparison

At the same time, high-quality onions enter the market in limited quantities. Producers prefer to store them in warehouses, waiting for more favorable market conditions in the winter period. Despite the current cheapening, analysts note that current prices remain about 37% higher than last year's figures.

Contradictory Data

On the one hand, official reports record the mass sale of cheap onions due to the impossibility of long-term storage; on the other hand, local marketing crises are registered where farmers in certain regions (for example, Mykolaiv region) are forced to utilize surpluses due to the destruction of infrastructure and supply chains.
