Non-working pensioners raising children under the age of 18 have gained the right to additional financial support from the state. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved Resolution No. 654, which introduces a monthly allowance to the pension for this category of citizens.
Allowance amount and appointment conditions
According to the document, the allowance amount is 150 hryvnias per child per month. This decision applies to pensioners receiving an old-age, disability, or length-of-service pension, provided they are not working and have minor children in their care.
It is important to note that only one parent can apply for this allowance — not both simultaneously. This means the family must decide which parent will submit the documents to receive the payment.
How to receive the allowance: step-by-step instructions
The additional payment is not assigned automatically. To start receiving the monthly payment, the pensioner must personally contact the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Ukraine with a corresponding application and a package of supporting documents.
Among the mandatory documents are children's birth certificates, documents confirming that the children are in the care of the pensioner, and a certificate stating that the parent is not working. It is best to clarify the full list of documents at the local PFU office, as it may vary depending on the region and individual circumstances.
Other support measures for pensioners
Previously, RBC-Ukraine reported on another significant allowance — almost 1300 hryvnias monthly — for non-working military pensioners who support incapacitated family members. It was also previously announced that pension service periods would be expanded: university studies before January 1, 2004, are now counted towards service even without a diploma, provided the education was on a full-time basis.
These measures indicate a gradual strengthening of social protection for vulnerable groups of the population, especially those forced to combine retirement age with the duties of raising children or caring for loved ones.
