Ukrainian retail is preparing for the arrival of a new major player. The Polish retail chain Pepco, known for its affordable prices on clothing and home goods, has officially determined the locations for opening its first stores in the country.
According to information received from the Association of Retailers of Ukraine, the launch of the network will begin in four cities: Kyiv, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, and Mukachevo. This decision marks the next step in the company's strategy to enter the market, which is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
Strategy and Assortment
Company management emphasizes that they are currently at the stage of careful preparation. Country Manager of Pepco Ukraine, Arsen Starchenko, noted that the key priority is adapting operational processes to local realities and customer demands.
The store format is designed for a wide audience in need of budget solutions for their wardrobe and household setup. The structure of the assortment in Ukrainian stores will be as follows:
- Home goods: about 30%.
- Children's clothing: 25%.
- Adult clothing: 21%.
Experts note that Pepco's entry could be a significant event for the home goods and decor market. Previously, this segment was dominated by the Swedish IKEA, which left the country, leaving the niche without a major international player.
Scale and Staff
Ukraine will become the 20th market for Pepco's presence. The company, operating since 1999, manages more than 4,000 stores in 19 European countries and is part of the Pepco Group.
Preparation for the launch has already moved to a practical level: the company has begun recruiting staff. Job vacancies for new stores have already been posted on specialized employment resources, indicating the retailer's serious intentions.
