Major personnel changes are coming to the Ukrainian government. President Volodymyr Zelensky personally announced plans to change the status of the current Minister of Economy, Alexey Sobolev. The head of state has proposed that the economist take on a new position within the President's Office.

Sobolev's new role in Budanov's team

Information regarding the change in the minister's duties became known during a joint press conference between Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer. The President of Ukraine explained that the vacancy has already been discussed with the current head of the President's Office, Kirill Budanov.

"Yesterday I had a discussion with the head of my office, with Kirill Budanov, we had a vacancy, we want to offer it to him, I haven't spoken to him yet, to offer Sobolev the position of Deputy for Economy in the Office of the President of Ukraine," Zelensky stated.

Thus, Alexey Sobolev could move from the Cabinet of Ministers to the direct subordination of the head of the President's administration, focusing on economic issues within the structure of the President's Office.

Formation of the new government

Personnel changes against the backdrop of a change in the Prime Minister. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada approved the candidacy of Serhiy Koretsky for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine. 289 people's deputies voted for his appointment.

The new head of government has already outlined the priorities of his work. In his speech, Koretsky emphasized that the main task of the new cabinet will be the full support of the country's Defense Forces, as well as the scaling of the Ukrainian defense industry complex (MIC).

Reasons for the dismissal of the Minister of Defense

During the event, Volodymyr Zelensky publicly commented for the first time on the reasons for the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of Minister of Defense. According to the president, the key factor was the lack of effective communication between the Ministry of Defense and the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
