An important dialogue took place in Kyiv, determining the fate of Ukraine's new banknote. Dmytro Stus, the son of the legendary poet of the Sixtiers Vasyl Stus, met with the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyi. The meeting, held on July 21, 2026, was dedicated to the preparation for the release of a new 2000 hryvnia banknote, which will feature a portrait of Vasyl Stus.

Open dialogue about national memory

Both sides initiated the meeting with the aim of establishing an open dialogue. Representatives of the National Bank of Ukraine, the public union "StusCenter," and the event organizer — Lobby Club representative Serhiy Kolesnyk — took part in the negotiations. The main topic of discussion was the worthy honoring of the poet's memory, who remains one of the key moral authorities in Ukrainian society.

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement on cooperation was reached between the NBU, "StusCenter," and Lobby Club. The parties intend to jointly implement projects aimed at popularizing the creative legacy of Vasyl Stus both within the country and abroad.

Family support and the symbolism of the banknote

Dmytro Stus officially supported the National Bank's decision to dedicate the new banknote to the memory of his father. The poet's family understands that Vasyl Stus has become a symbol of human and national dignity for many citizens of Ukraine, which must be defended under any circumstances. The inclusion of his image in the country's monetary system is viewed as an act of recognition of his contribution to history.

The public union "StusCenter" expressed gratitude to the Lobby Club team for their support and to the NBU leadership for transparency and readiness for dialogue. In the union's statement, it was emphasized that partnership is the best foundation for implementing important public and cultural projects in Ukraine.

Details of the new banknote release

Earlier, the head of the NBU, Andriy Pyshnyi, confirmed that the introduction of the new banknote into circulation is scheduled for September 4, 2026. The National Bank also clarified technical details: new banknotes will be accepted by ATMs, ensuring their rapid integration into the monetary circulation. The image on the banknote will be accompanied by elements reflecting the poet's biography and creativity, making the banknote not just a means of payment, but also a monument to an outstanding personality.
