Tension is growing within the Ukrainian political elite surrounding the figure of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Although the politician himself has not yet demonstrated ambitions to return to big politics, the situation around him is changing rapidly. A new investigation by RBC-Ukraine titled "Uproar on Bankova" reveals details of behind-the-scenes intrigues and possible scenarios for Fedorov's future.
Pressure of Circumstances and Risk of Escalation
Insiders close to Fedorov's team admit: the current surge in the former minister's popularity may be short-lived. However, the politician himself does not intend to close the door on politics forever. According to sources in his circle, Fedorov's decision could change radically under the influence of external factors. Key triggers will be the development of events on the front, the dynamics of protest sentiments in society, and the degree of pressure on him personally, as well as on his allies.
Fedorov as the "Face" of a New Project
Speculation about the politician's future is not limited to his personal plans. Insiders from the "Servant of the People" party report that Fedorov is being considered as an ideal candidate for the role of leader of a new political union. The discussion concerns a progressive-liberal anti-corruption project, similar to the "Holos" or "Self Help" parties.
Potential creators of such a party have already conducted sociological measurements. The results showed that the project lacks a charismatic leader for success. In this role, Fedorov looks the most organic. For now, these are just hypotheses, but the interest in his candidacy from opposition forces is obvious.
Business or "Think Tank"?
Fedorov's circle is trying to find a compromise that will allow him to remain an influential player without entering direct political struggle. An RBC-Ukraine insider explains the former minister's strategy: "Misha found a format to guarantee that he won't go into politics himself, but will remain in the team. If not, he will go into business or work in think tanks in the defense sector or something similar. So all of this is just excuses."
In the event of a refusal of a political career, Fedorov is considering options for working in think tanks specializing in defense issues, or moving into business.
Relations with Zelenskyy and NATO Prospects
The conflict with the President of Ukraine's administration has already occurred. Previously, RBC-Ukraine reported how Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained to Fedorov the refusal to appoint him to the post of Minister of Defense. In addition, it became known that the former minister rejected the President's offers for other positions.
Nevertheless, Fedorov's international prospects remain open. In particular, he received an offer to take the position of advisor in one of the NATO countries. While the politician weighs all options, Ukrainian society awaits his choice: political struggle, expert activity, or business.
