Eggs, bread, and buckwheat: how prices in Ukrainian supermarkets changed after the weekend

After the weekend, major retail chains in Ukraine updated their price lists for basic products. According to a monitoring survey conducted by RBC-Ukraine, the most significant fluctuations affected the cost of chicken eggs, which directly impacts the budget of the average family.

Experts collected current prices in popular supermarkets as of Monday, July 27. The analysis showed that even amidst general inflation, shoppers can find advantageous deals if they compare prices across different chains.

Bread and cereals: stability in the category

In the bakery category, the "Silpo" chain became the leader in affordability. It is here that you can find the most budget-friendly offer for sliced bread: half a loaf of "Kazatsky" costs less than 13 hryvnias. In other chains, the lowest prices are often tied to heavier items, which require more significant one-time spending.

The situation with cereals appears more stable. The cost of a one-kilogram pack of buckwheat in the three leading chains is practically identical — the price hovers around 66 hryvnias. Shoppers do not encounter a significant difference in the cost of this staple product when choosing a store.

The battle for eggs and dairy products

The most noticeable changes in the consumer basket occurred in the egg segment. Currently, the most favorable price for a dozen C1 category eggs is fixed at "Auchan" — 30 hryvnias. The ATB chain has a special promotional discount, allowing shoppers to save 4 hryvnias on a package compared to the regular price tag.

In the dairy category, the situation depends on the purchase volume. For a small package of pasteurized or ultra-pasteurized milk (450 g), the smallest receipts are offered by ATB and "Silpo". However, if you wish to buy a larger volume (900 g), it is more advantageous to go to "Auchan", where a delivery promotion is active.

Special attention deserves the price of vegetable oil. The cheapest refined oil in a 0.5-liter bottle can be purchased in the "Auchan" and ATB chains, where special promotional prices are currently in effect.
