On October 20, rain will cover part of Ukraine, with the most intense precipitation expected in the southwestern part of the country, where it will be heavy in places. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a publication by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UHC) on Facebook. According to forecasters, the weather across the country will generally be partly cloudy, with conditions varying significantly from region to region — from heavy downpours in the west to completely dry weather in large parts of the territory.

Where heavy precipitation is expected

The dampest weather will be in the southwestern part of Ukraine, where heavy rains are forecast in some areas. On the Right Bank, in the Kherson region and in Crimea, precipitation will be moderate. In the rest of the country, according to the UHC forecast, there will be no precipitation. At night and in the morning, fog is expected in places in the Carpathians and in the east of the country, requiring drivers to be extra careful on the roads.

Wind and temperature background

The wind will blow from the east and southeast at 7–12 m/s. At night, air temperatures ranged from 9 to 14 degrees Celsius, and 6 to 11 degrees in the western regions. During the day, the air will warm up to 13–18 degrees, while in Transcarpathia and the south of the country, thermometer readings will rise to 21 degrees Celsius. Thus, on October 20, a mild autumn temperature regime will persist without sharp fluctuations.

Weather in Kyiv and Kyiv Region

Partly cloudy weather with moderate rain is also expected in the capital and Kyiv region. The wind will be southeast at 7–12 m/s. In the Kyiv region at night, temperatures ranged from 9 to 14 degrees Celsius, with 13–18 degrees forecast during the day. In Kyiv itself, nighttime temperatures were 11–13 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures are expected to reach 16–18 degrees. City residents should take into account the likelihood of precipitation when planning their daily activities.

Low water levels in rivers and the "brown" danger level

In addition to precipitation, the UHC reminds of another autumn phenomenon: some Ukrainian rivers may retain very low water levels until the end of October. In several regions, due to low water levels, the third, "brown", danger level has been declared. This status records water scarcity in reservoirs and can affect water supply and navigation in the respective regions.

Impact of weather on air quality

Forecasters also emphasize the connection between weather and air quality in Ukraine. According to experts, pollutants are trapped in the atmosphere during calms and anticyclone conditions, while they are dispersed by winds exceeding 4–5 m/s, as well as by rain or snow. Thus, the precipitation and moderate wind of 7–12 m/s expected on October 20 generally contribute to improving the ecological situation in cities.
