On the evening of October 7, 2026, Russian forces launched another large-scale air attack on the capital of Ukraine. As a result of a hostile drone strike, an apartment building in the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv was hit. The strike landed directly at the level of the tenth floor of a twelve-story building, causing a massive fire and partial destruction of structural elements.
Consequences of the attack and rescue operation
According to the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, firefighters and rescuers who promptly arrived at the scene launched a large-scale rescue operation. Thanks to the coordinated actions of emergency services, 22 people, including 8 children, were rescued from the burning and damaged building. Four people sustained injuries of varying severity, including two minors, and they were immediately handed over to ambulance crews.
Fire liquidation and emergency response work
The fire quickly spread across the upper floors of the building, covering an area of about 100 square meters. Enhanced SES teams, cynologists, bomb disposal experts, and medics worked at the scene. Rescuers managed to quickly localize and completely extinguish the open fire. At the same time, city authorities and operational services continue to clarify information regarding possible additional casualties and the scale of infrastructure destruction.
Contradictory data
Certain discrepancies arise in the information space and analytical summaries regarding the total number of injured and killed during the night shelling of the capital. Official SES reports on the specific incident in the Desnianskyi district mention four injured and 22 rescued without indicating fatalities at this local site. At the same time, other specialized monitoring resources and related news publications mention the consequences of simultaneous strikes on the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv, where one fatality and five injuries are reported, as well as broader data across the entire metropolitan agglomeration over the past day, which requires careful verification by official agencies.
Authorities' reaction and further situation
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and representatives of the military administration confirmed the fact of missile and drone terror against the city's civilian infrastructure. The air raid alert in the Ukrainian capital sounded for several hours in a row, reflecting the ongoing threat from the air. Specialists continue clearing debris and assessing the damage inflicted on the capital's housing stock.
