On the night of August 5, the capital of Ukraine was subjected to a massive rocket attack. According to local sources, Russia fired between 25 and 30 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the surrounding region. Explosions were heard in several districts of the city, resulting in fires and infrastructure damage.
Injury to medical personnel and damage to emergency vehicles
One of the consequences of the attack was damage to an ambulance. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko in his Telegram channel. According to him, the incident occurred at one of the locations as a result of secondary explosions. The ambulance driver sustained injuries.
Emergency services are working at the scene. Photos from the site show fire crews and ambulance teams that arrived to mitigate the consequences and assist the injured.
Fires and destruction in the capital's districts
The most significant damage was recorded in the Obolon, Holosiiv, Desna, and Sviatoshyn districts. In the Obolon district, fire engulfed warehouse facilities, office buildings, and non-residential structures. There were also reports of a fire in a residential building.
In the Holosiiv district, the situation was exacerbated by an ammonia leak after a rocket hit a non-residential building. This created additional risks for the population and rescuers working in the affected zone.
Search and rescue operation
Due to the collapse of structures in the Holosiiv district, people were trapped under the rubble. Rescuers managed to extract two injured individuals. The search and rescue operation is ongoing, with specialists continuing to inspect destroyed buildings and search for potential victims.
The situation remains tense. City services are working in an enhanced mode to minimize the consequences of the attack and ensure the safety of residents. Official data on the number of injured and deceased has not yet been released.
