Over the past few weeks, increased activity by Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) has been recorded in the border areas of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. This was stated during the national telethon by Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU), as cited by RBC-Ukraine.

Where SRG Activity Has Been Recorded

According to Demchenko, this primarily concerns the Sumy region, where sabotage and reconnaissance groups have become somewhat more active in recent weeks. In addition, according to his data, several attempts by Russian SRGs to operate were also recorded within the Chernihiv region. The SBGSU spokesperson emphasized that these are precisely attempts that are being thwarted at the stage of their implementation.

Defense Forces' Countermeasures

Demchenko noted that Ukraine's Defense Forces are using anti-sabotage reserves and technical means to counter these threats. According to him, this allows such groups to be detected in a timely manner and prevents them from executing their planned objectives. Thus, according to the border guards' assessment, the current counter-action system is operational and prevents sabotage elements from achieving their goals.

Dynamics of Infantry Attacks in Sumy Region

Separately, the SBGSU spokesperson pointed out an increase in the number of attacks by Russian infantry groups in the Sumy region, predominantly in the Shostka and Konotop districts. At the same time, he emphasized that the intensity of force deployment in these areas is currently lower than in the Kharkiv region, where combat operations are conducted with greater density.

Chernihiv Region and Possible Scenarios

As for the Chernihiv region, according to Demchenko, no enemy infantry groups have been recorded along the border line for a long time. At the same time, he warned that if Russia finds additional manpower resources, an increase in attacks within the Sumy region should also be expected. In his assessment, this is a key factor that border guards are monitoring first and foremost.

Context: Expanding the Control Zone

Earlier, the SBGSU reported that Russian occupiers are trying to expand their control zone in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Demchenko's statements on the telethon fit into this picture and confirm that border areas remain under the close attention of the border service and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
