Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga told journalists that in the near future Kyiv and its allies, including the United States, will give a new impetus to peace efforts aimed at ending Russia's war. According to the minister, diplomacy must play an increasingly active role both in the peace efforts and in bringing an end to Russian aggression. 'I recommend that you follow the news closely right now. In Ukraine there have been no holidays and no pauses — we are fighting for our land, for a just peace. And now, I believe, we will see a new dynamic in the peace efforts with the return of an active political-diplomatic phase in many world capitals,' Sibiga emphasized, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
The American Factor: Unrealistic Without Washington
In response to questions about the role of the United States in a possible peace settlement, the Ukrainian foreign minister stated outright that it is unrealistic to achieve the end of the war without the participation of the American side. 'That is the geopolitical reality,' Sibiga noted. He also confirmed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had recently spoken with the American negotiating team and that regular contact on their side has been maintained without interruption. Thus, the diplomatic channel between Kyiv and Washington is functioning on a continuous basis, which, in the minister's assessment, creates the preconditions for a new round of negotiations.
Context: Statements by Putin and Trump
Sibiga's statement came against the backdrop of a series of resonant remarks by world leaders. The day before, Russian leader Vladimir Putin unexpectedly declared that there was a 'chance' for a peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. At the same time, US President Donald Trump announced that he would not meet with the Kremlin leader until the latter agreed to a peace agreement with Kyiv. The combination of these signals paints a picture in which diplomatic pressure on Moscow is being intensified from several directions at once, while Kyiv positions itself as a party ready for negotiations provided its territorial and sovereign interests are preserved.

Against the backdrop of the diplomatic statements, on September 3 President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a new escalation in the war on the part of Russia.
