It is physically impossible to disable the Bortnychi Aeration Station (BAS) with just a few pinpoint strikes. According to Serhiy Horkutsenko, Deputy General Director of Kyivvodokanal, the key factors protecting the facility are its colossal area and multi-level redundancy of critical technological nodes and life-support systems.

Infrastructure Protection and Facility Scale

Commenting on concerns spreading in the information space that Russians allegedly need only a minimal number of hits for a prolonged station shutdown, the expert categorically refuted this scenario. The BAS territory is so vast, and the communications are distributed and duplicated at so many points, that completely stopping its operation would require a massive carpet-bombing of the entire facility area.

Emergency Action Plan and Residential Protection

Answering questions about potential attacks on collectors transporting wastewater from the metropolis, the Kyivvodokanal representative noted that the main arteries are laid deep underground, particularly beneath the metro system. In case of emergencies, enterprise specialists have developed a detailed action plan. It provides for the guaranteed diversion of wastewater from the capital to two or three control points, its prompt pumping out, and logistical removal.

Environmental Risks and Historical Experience

The enterprise management assures that inside residential areas themselves, the sewage system will continue to function under any scenarios, regardless of power outages or other external factors. Specialized services call preventing the flooding of basements and adjacent territories their primary priority task. Potential temporary discharges into the Dnipro in case of accidents will not create catastrophic consequences due to the river's natural self-cleaning capacity, as confirmed by past precedents.
