On October 16, a drop in water pressure was recorded in four districts of Kyiv. According to PrJSC 'Kyivvodokanal', a temporary interruption in water supply is possible in a number of buildings. RBC-Ukraine reported this citing an official representative of the municipal enterprise. The situation has already been taken under control by 'Kyivvodokanal' specialists who are taking measures to quickly restore a stable water supply in the affected neighborhoods.

Cause of the Failure: Emergency Shutdown of Pumping Equipment

The direct cause of the pressure drop was an emergency shutdown of pumping equipment at one of the capital's water supply facilities. According to 'Kyivvodokanal', the failure occurred due to a voltage drop in the power grid, which led to the forced disconnection of pumping units. Without the pumps operating, pressure in the main and quarter networks drops sharply, and on the upper floors of multi-story buildings, water may disappear completely. Enterprise specialists are monitoring network parameters and working to restore the standard supply mode.

What Residents of Affected Districts Should Do

'Kyivvodokanal' reminds that pump-room complexes operate in Kyiv where residents can collect drinking water in case of a temporary interruption in apartment supply. The current list and location of the nearest pump rooms can be checked on the official website of Municipal Enterprise 'Kyivvodfond'. The enterprise recommends that residents keep a supply of drinking water at home, especially if the building lacks a storage tank, and follow 'Kyivvodokanal' official channels for information on supply restoration schedules.

Context: A Series of Water Supply Disruptions Since Early October

The current failure is not isolated. Following the attack on October 10, which damaged energy infrastructure objects in the Kyiv region, systematic water supply interruptions began in the capital. On October 14, due to the power outage of one of the pumping stations, 'Kyivvodokanal' warned of a possible pressure drop or temporary disappearance of water in the Pechersk district. On October 15, the enterprise reported the temporary termination of hot water supply in houses served by TEC-4. Thus, for the period from October 10 to 16, Kyiv residents have faced repeated water supply violations associated with the operation of energy infrastructure.

Dependency of Water Supply on Power Supply: Systemic Risk

As previously explained by 'Kyivvodokanal', during prolonged power outages, Kyiv's water supply critically depends on the operation of pumping equipment. If electricity is supplied only a few hours a day, water enters the network precisely during these hours, and on upper floors, due to pump shutdown, it may be completely absent. In severe frosts, the prolonged lack of heating additionally increases the risk of pipes freezing in residential buildings. In this regard, the enterprise advises residents to insulate external communications and check the possibility of backup power for pumps in their houses and yards.

Work to Restore Stable Supply

As of October 16, utility services and power engineers continue joint work to restore a stable water supply to the affected areas. 'Kyivvodokanal' emphasizes that the situation is under constant control, and all measures taken are aimed at returning water supply parameters to normal as soon as possible. Residents are asked to contact the enterprise's contact center if prolonged interruptions or abnormal tap pressure are detected.
