The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, considered the world's most vital oil artery, has reached its most critical and dangerous point. Official Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Mohammad Akraminia has put forward an open and harsh condition to Washington regarding shipping in the region and the opening of the strait. According to him, Tehran places the primary responsibility for the security crisis in the region on the US armed forces.
Tehran's Condition
Speaking on his social media page, Mohammad Akraminia outlined the firm position of the Iranian military command regarding the future of the region. According to him, if the US leaves the region, the Strait of Hormuz will fully open, collective security will be guaranteed with the participation of regional states, and the global economy will receive a powerful stimulus for recovery. At the same time, an open warning was issued: if the US does not leave voluntarily, they will be "driven out" of the region, the Iranian military command representative emphasized.
Record Tension According to UKMTO
According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), tension in this waterway reached a historical peak in October. In a short period, at least 10 merchant vessels came under attack, the highest figure since the beginning of the conflict. October 11 was particularly tense, with 6 ships attacked in a single day. As a result of the strikes, ships are burning and sinking; specifically, during the attack on the bulk carrier Cape Dao, an Indian national was killed, and a number of tankers struck marine mines.
Blow to the Global Economy
Approximately 20 percent of all crude oil consumed on Earth is exported through the Strait of Hormuz — specifically on tankers and through this narrow passage. The closure of the strait or continuous attacks within it are already having a direct negative impact on fuel prices, logistic costs, and global inflation worldwide, making the situation not only a military one but also economically significant for all countries.
Risk of Full-Scale Escalation
As noted in available data, if the military confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz is not resolved through diplomatic means in the coming days, a new hotbed of full-scale war could emerge in the region. Thus, Iran's stated condition and the record statistics of attacks on ships form one of the most dangerous scenarios for global security and energy markets at present.
