On the afternoon of July 26, a powerful explosion rocked Chernihiv. A Russian drone struck the building of the popular retail chain ATB. As a result of the attack on a civilian object, people were killed, including a child.
Casualties and Injured
Information about the tragedy was first reported by the Head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi. According to his data, at the time of publication, two people were known to have died and 13 were injured. Among those injured were four men and nine women.
The Head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration (RMA), Vyacheslav Chaus, clarified the terrible details of the incident. Among the dead is a 9-year-old girl. A 10-year-old boy was also among the injured.
The condition of the injured ranges from light to severe. Three people were hospitalized in a moderate condition and are in intensive care. The rest of the injured received outpatient medical care and were sent home.
Weapon Type and Government Reaction
According to preliminary conclusions by bomb disposal experts, voiced by the Head of the Regional National Police, Volodymyr Tymoshko, a "Geran-4" unmanned aerial vehicle was used against the supermarket. The drone was equipped with a video camera, indicating a targeted selection of the target.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted sharply to the incident on social media. He called the strike "absolutely cynical" and noted that Russia continues to attack ordinary civilian objects without any military sense.
