On the morning of October 27, a Russian strike hit the warehouse of the «Book Club Family Leisure» (BFC) publishing house. According to the publishing house itself, the building sustained damage as a result of the attack, and fires broke out on the warehouse premises, which were extinguished by rescue workers. BFC reported that strikes in the area where the warehouse is located continued into daytime hours. There were no casualties among the publishing house's employees.
Scale of the Preserved Fund
At the damaged warehouse, according to BFC representatives, about 300,000 books were stored. The publishing house published photos and videos showing the aftermath of the strike. They emphasized that it is currently impossible to assess how many copies can be saved: in addition to the direct impact of fire and water, heavy smoke could have worsened storage conditions even for those books that were not directly touched by the fire. BFC stated that they are continuing efforts to rescue the book collection.
Impact on the Book Market and Novelty Releases
Due to the consequences of the shelling, the publishing house warned that it will not be able to supply all physical bookstores with the required quantity of each novelty scheduled for release on November 5. Some new editions have already arrived at certain stores, but some retail points will not receive them. According to BFC information, individual books will be available only online.
What Readers Should Do
The publishing house promised to provide separate updates on the availability of specific editions. You can check if the desired book is available in a particular bookstore on the BFC website. Thus, the strike on the warehouse has turned not only into an incident involving material damage, but also into a factor affecting logistics and the timeline for new books appearing in retail.
