On Monday evening, July 20, the city of Sumy became the target of a new strike by Russian military forces. According to local authorities, the enemy used a jet unmanned aerial vehicle, which crashed in the immediate vicinity of a multi-story residential building.

Consequences of the attack

As a result of a direct hit, the building sustained serious damage. A powerful explosion triggered a major fire on the first floor and the adjacent territory, which is currently being extinguished by fire crews. The fire has engulfed a significant portion of the facade and the interior space of the lower floor.

Casualties

The situation regarding casualties remains tense. The Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hryhorov, initially reported two injured people. However, later the Acting Mayor, Artem Kobzar, clarified the data: the number of injured increased to three people.

Among the injured were a woman and two children. One of the children was urgently taken to the hospital; doctors assess his condition as requiring observation. The second child and the woman received medical assistance on the spot and did not require hospitalization.

Authorities' reaction

All emergency services are working at the scene of the incident: firefighters, medical personnel, and rescuers. They are dealing with the aftermath of the strike and extinguishing the fire. Authorities are urging city residents to remain vigilant, as the threat of repeated attacks persists. Local residents are strongly advised to stay in safe places and basements.
