Strike on warehouses in Bucha district
On Friday evening, August 28, as a result of a Russian attack on facilities in Bucha district of Kyiv region, located near the Zhytomyr highway, a fire broke out followed by a detonation. According to emergency services and the regional administration, police, rescuers, bomb disposal experts and other emergency structures were working at the scene; evacuation of people was being prepared if necessary. Koretsky's statement: "criminal negligence"
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky reported on his Telegram channel that he had received reports from the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the head of the State Emergency Service about the strike in Bucha district. He emphasized that the "Kyiv–Chop" highway is temporarily closed, all emergency services are working at the scene, and the necessary forces and resources have been deployed to eliminate the consequences. Responding to a question about the nature of the damaged facilities, Koretsky did not directly name their type, but, recalling the recent tragedy in Vishnove, made it clear that the strike may have hit not just civilian warehouses. "The terrible tragedy in Vishnove did not become a lesson. On the fifth year of the full-scale invasion, making the same mistakes is criminal negligence. And all those responsible, without exception, must face severe punishment," the prime minister stated.
The shadow of the tragedy in Vishnove
Koretsky's reference to Vishnove alludes to the events of July 6, when, as a result of a Russian strike on a settlement in Kyiv region, powerful explosions rang out followed by a detonation. It later turned out that the strike hit an ammunition depot of one of the "Ukroboronprom" enterprises, located virtually in a residential block; as a result, five streets were destroyed, and the enterprise's executives were detained. It was precisely this precedent that the prime minister used as an argument that a military or defense facility may also have been affected in Bucha district, although no final confirmation of this was given in public statements at the time of publication.
Closure of the "Kyiv–Chop" highway and detours
At the time of publication, traffic in both directions along part of the Zhytomyr highway remained closed. Police reported that drivers could use alternative routes to detour. The situation at the scene, according to officials, remains under control, and all forces are focused on containing the consequences and protecting citizens.
