The strategy of conducting hostilities on the eastern front is undergoing significant changes. Russian troops are increasingly less likely to use armored vehicles during active offensive operations, shifting the focus to the covert accumulation of resources for local breakthroughs.
This was stated by Ruslan Muzychuk, a representative of the National Guard of Ukraine, during a televised marathon. According to him, the nature of the fighting this year differs radically from previous stages of the conflict.
From Mechanized Assaults to Infantry Raids
Muzychuk noted that during the summer campaign, the enemy effectively abandoned large-scale mechanized assaults. Instead, the Ukrainian side is recording an increase in the activity of infantry groupings.
"This year, even during the summer campaign, the enemy effectively did not use large mechanized assaults. We continue to record more infantry assaults, and not just the movement of small infantry groups — even individual movements of Russian occupiers to reach a certain point and accumulate," — emphasized the National Guard officer.
This change in tactics serves a specific purpose: the covert creation of strike force groupings. The Russian command aims to accumulate equipment and personnel in close proximity to the front line to deliver a powerful, but targeted, blow at specific sectors at the right moment.
Failure of the Breakthrough Attempt near Shakhovo
A vivid example of the implementation of this tactic was the preparation of an attack in the area of the settlement of Shakhovo. There, Russian troops managed to concentrate significant offensive potential, including several units of armored vehicles, planning a forced breakthrough of the defense.
However, Ukrainian military forces were able to intercept preparation signals before the start of active operations. Thanks to timely detection, the majority of the offensive grouping was destroyed during four hours of fighting. Ukrainian UAV operators made a significant contribution to the destruction of enemy equipment.
New Threats on the Pokrovsk Direction
The situation remains tense on other sections of the front as well. Earlier, the "Rubizh" brigade of the National Guard reported on the preparation of Russian troops to intensify assaults on the Pokrovsk direction, specifically towards Dobropillya.
According to Ukrainian military data, the enemy is conducting active aerial reconnaissance and clearing routes for the deployment of forces. Special attention in Russian attack plans is paid to the use of light mobile equipment — motorcycles and ATVs, which allows for the rapid movement of infantry in the conditions of minefields.
