Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has codified the Tanchik Droid 12.7 reconnaissance-strike ground robotic complex (UGV) and listed it on the Brave1 marketplace, where military units can now order the vehicle for 'e-points.' The complex is the result of a joint development effort by DevDroid and Overland Defense and is designed to carry out combat tasks at a distance, significantly reducing the risk of the operator being in close proximity to the engagement zone. Listing the robot on a public procurement platform indicates that it has moved past the prototype stage and received an official codified designation within the Armed Forces' supply system.
Combat module and firepower
The Tanchik Droid 12.7 is equipped with a combat module featuring a Browning machine gun with a 400-round ammunition load. The effective range against targets is approximately one kilometer, making the complex suitable both for suppressing enemy personnel and for countering light vehicles. According to several publications, the armed module includes a system given the internal designation 'Wolly,' which is likely the name of the specific configuration block housing the Browning machine gun. In addition to firing missions, the UGV is capable of performing observation and reconnaissance functions, transmitting data to the operator in real time.
Chassis, autonomy, and communications
The ground complex is built on a tracked chassis, giving it mobility across rough terrain and soft ground. The range on standard battery packs is about 35 kilometers, allowing the robot to operate autonomously for a significant period without recharging. The communications system includes a Starlink module, ensuring reliable transmission of telemetry and video even under conditions of partial signal shielding. The tracked platform, with its visible road wheels and drive sprockets, appears from published footage to be designed for field operations, including wet ground and damaged surfaces.
Place in the Armed Forces' weapons system
The appearance of the Tanchik Droid 12.7 on the Brave1 marketplace continues the trend of systematically integrating ground robotic complexes into the weapons structure. It was previously reported that the Protector UGV underwent an upgrade that doubled its payload capacity and added a new type of communications. Meanwhile, the international defense technology market is seeing its own developments: Turkish company FNSS unveiled the U-MAV (Multi-Purpose Modular Unmanned Amphibious Vehicle), a floating multi-purpose UGV capable of reaching speeds of up to 7 knots on water and up to 70 km/h on land. Competition in the ground robot segment is pushing Ukrainian companies to accelerate the refinement and serial production of their own platforms.
