On the evening of August 25, 2026, a conflict between citizens and representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Center (TCK) in Ternopil escalated into an open confrontation, as a result of which the center's employees sustained bodily injuries and their official vehicle was damaged. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Main Directorate of the National Police in Ternopil Oblast. According to law enforcement, the incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Lesya Kurbasa Street, when TCK officers were speaking with one of the men as part of measures to identify individuals who may be evading their military duty.
How the conflict unfolded
According to the police version, at some point other citizens began approaching the official vehicle. A dispute arose between them and the TCK employees, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation: people began striking the vehicle. As a result of the incident, the Territorial Recruitment Center employees sustained bodily injuries, and the vehicle sustained mechanical damage. Law enforcement emphasize that the initial contact with one of the men was of a routine check nature, and the escalation occurred after bystanders approached the scene.
Law enforcement response and investigation progress
To stop the conflict, an investigative-operational group and additional police units arrived at the scene. Law enforcement stabilized the situation and began establishing the circumstances of the incident. Police are now identifying all participants in the conflict, determining the extent of the property damage and the nature of the bodily injuries sustained by the TCK employees. Based on the results of the check, a decision will be made on entering the information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations and on the legal qualification of the actions of the incident's participants.
Context: a series of attacks on TCK in August
The Ternopil incident became another episode in a series of attacks on TCK officers recorded in Ukraine in August 2026. On the night of August 21, in Lviv, during measures to notify the population about mobilization and to check military registration documents, a man attacked a TCK serviceman and inflicted a stab wound on him; despite resuscitation efforts, the 55-year-old serviceman died in the ambulance. In addition, in Lutsk, a group of people attacked TCK servicemen and police officers: two servicemen were injured, and the official vehicle was damaged and looted.
Police position
The National Police calls on citizens to refrain from any manifestations of aggression and unlawful actions, emphasizing that all conflict situations must be resolved exclusively within the legal framework. Law enforcement note that the actions of the participants in the Ternopil confrontation may entail criminal liability, and the final qualification will be determined at the conclusion of the pretrial investigation.
