Discussions regarding a potential military intervention by Iran have intensified in Ukraine's information space. Although there have been no official statements confirming the preparation of an attack, experts point out that Tehran possesses the technical capability to strike the country's territory. This was stated by Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council (SNBO), in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Situation Amidst Telegram Rumors

The discussion was triggered by messages in Telegram channels, which, citing monitoring groups, spread information about Iran potentially using up to three ballistic missiles against Ukraine in the near future. In response to these rumors, Andriy Kovalenko clarified the current status of the threat.

"I would add separately, to avoid manipulation: there is currently no official data (specifically official) regarding the preparation of such a strike. However, Iran does possess the weaponry for such actions," emphasized the SNBO representative.

Technical Capabilities of the Iranian Arsenal

According to Defense Express, Iran possesses medium-range ballistic missiles capable of reaching Ukrainian cities if launched from the northern regions of the Islamic Republic. The range of certain models varies from 1,800 to 4,000 kilometers.

Tehran's arsenal includes several types of missiles that pose a serious threat:

  • Khorramshahr: This missile is equipped with a cluster warhead containing 20 submunitions. They scatter within an 8 km radius, making the missile an effective tool for striking area targets and complicating the work of anti-missile defense systems.
  • Ghadr, Emad, and Sejjil: Effectively intercepting these models requires high-class air defense systems such as THAAD or Arrow-2. Systems like Patriot have limited capabilities against such ballistics, which depends on the speed and trajectory of the target.

Reason for Escalation: Incident in the Caspian Sea

Tensions between the countries have escalated against the backdrop of events on July 26. On this day, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Ukraine of attacking a civilian vessel in the Caspian Sea. Tehran claimed that one sailor was killed and another was injured as a result of the strike.

However, the Ukrainian side adheres to a different version of events. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated there were "very good results" from long-range strikes in the Caspian. According to him, the target was a vessel used to transport military cargo to Russia.

Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, commenting on Iran's threats, emphasized Kyiv's principled position: any military logistics supporting Russia's needs constitutes a legitimate military target.
