In August 2026, the Ukrainian agricultural market is witnessing significant price dynamics that directly impact the consumer basket of citizens. According to data from the EastFruit trading platform, published by RBC-Ukraine, a significant decrease in the cost of popular summer vegetables and fruits was recorded last week. At the same time, there is an increase in prices for some types of root vegetables and berries, creating a complex picture for buyers.
Sharp drop in prices for tomatoes and melons
The most noticeable change was the drop in tomato prices. According to analysts, the cost of this popular vegetable fell from a range of 45–65 hryvnias per kilogram to 30–40 hryvnias. Experts link this to an increase in supply: tomatoes remain the best-selling item in the vegetable segment, and their presence in the market continues to grow. A similar situation is developing with watermelons, which remain the number one product by the number of posted advertisements. Their price has dropped to 7–10 hryvnias per kilogram, and the number of melon sellers increased by one and a half times in a week, which also led to a decrease in their cost to 18–28 hryvnias.
Rise in prices for potatoes and berries
Despite the general decline in prices for summer vegetables, some categories of products have become more expensive. Potatoes, which are traditionally the basis of the diet, have risen in price to 9–28 hryvnias per kilogram. Cabbage (15–20 hryvnias) and table beets (11–14 hryvnias) have also become more expensive. In the berry segment, there is an increase in the cost of sour cherries (130–170 hryvnias), raspberries, and blackberries (200–270 hryvnias). At the same time, prices for imported fruits, such as bananas, oranges, and lemons, have remained practically unchanged over the last week, remaining stable.
Record trading volumes and supply geography
Trading activity on the EastFruit platform has reached new heights. Last week, representatives of 10 countries joined the platform, and the number of posted advertisements set a new record for the current year. The top five countries by number of offers included Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and watermelons caused the greatest demand among buyers. The activity of Romanian buyers is noted separately, who are actively looking for blueberry suppliers. The number of sellers of early apples continues to grow, while the supply of plums, peaches, and apricots has decreased.
Contradictory data
While EastFruit data indicates a sharp drop in prices for tomatoes and cucumbers, some analytical forecasts published earlier in the media (for example, in Unian) suggested that vegetable prices would only drop in a few days due to logistical difficulties. However, actual data for the week shows that the decline has already occurred and is significant. The difference in versions may be related to the pace of harvest arrival in different regions of the country: while prices have dropped at wholesale markets, in retail chains in remote regions, the decline may be recorded with a delay.
