Two Grad systems destroyed near Huliaipole: 7th Corps of Assault Troops disrupts enemy logistics on the Polohy highway

Ukrainian military reported the destruction of two BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers on the Huliaipole–Polohy highway in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. According to the outlet, the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that the successful operation was carried out by operators of the 237th Unmanned Systems Battalion. The fighters tracked and struck both artillery systems, which the enemy had been using on the Huliaipole direction.

How the operation unfolded

According to the corps' statement, one of the Grad systems was destroyed in the vicinity of Huliaipole at the moment it was operating "from the wheels" — that is, firing without being deployed to a firing position. The second rocket launcher was struck by the unmanned systems operators while in motion, as it was moving along the highway toward the city. Thus, both targets were destroyed in the dynamic phase, which, by the military's logic, reduces the enemy's reaction time and deprives it of the ability to quickly shift its firing line.

The enemy's logistics artery

The military emphasized that the Huliaipole–Polohy highway, located, by their assessment, approximately 15 kilometers from the line of combat contact, is used by the enemy as a logistics artery — for transporting personnel and moving military equipment. "Enemy movement here is already dangerous. Disrupting logistics complicates the enemy's offensive operations on the Huliaipole direction," the 7th Corps of Assault Troops stated. Strikes on such communications, by the design of the Ukrainian military, are intended not so much to destroy individual pieces of equipment as to destabilize the entire chain of supply and force movement in this direction.

The concept of technological warfare

In its statement, the corps also recalled that units of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps of Assault Troops are developing the so-called concept of "technological warfare," within which drones, robotic complexes, and other modern solutions are meant to increase the effectiveness of combat task performance and reduce risks to personnel on the battlefield. The destruction of the Grad systems by means of unmanned systems is, in essence, a practical demonstration of this doctrine: a precision strike on a valuable artillery system is delivered without bringing standard crews to the front line and with minimal time from target detection to engagement.

Context: other operations of the corps

RBC-Ukraine had previously reported that other units of armored equipment had been destroyed in the area of responsibility of the 7th Corps of Assault Troops, which, according to the outlet's assessment, Russian military are now using relatively rarely on the front line. It should be noted separately that some materials related to the 7th Corps (including publications on other directions, for example, on Pokrovsk) describe independent operations and do not constitute direct confirmation of the strike on the Grad systems near Huliaipole. Thus, the fact of the destruction of two BM-21 systems rests on the statement of the 7th Corps of Assault Troops itself and the retelling of its press release by Ukrainian media, while an independent third party has not yet verified these data.
