To mark its 65th anniversary, the Ukraine Hotel in Kyiv prepared an unusual anniversary dessert for its guests. The hotel's pastry chefs created the “Mitsni Kashtani” pastry, styled after one of the capital's most recognizable symbols — the chestnut. This was reported by Wave RBC.UA, citing hotel representatives. The new item will be added to the hotel restaurant's menu on September 28, 2026.
A symbol of Kyiv in pastry form
As envisioned by the pastry chefs, the pastry reproduces the appearance of a real chestnut as closely as possible. On the outside, the dessert has a green, spiky shell made from white chocolate, while inside is hidden a “chestnut” core with cream. The dessert is served together with chestnut leaves, also made from chocolate with added matcha. In this way, the pastry chefs combined several textures and flavors in a single item: a crunchy chocolate “shell,” delicate cream, and the astringency of matcha.
The symbolism of resilience and humanity
The hard shell protecting the delicate core, as intended by the creators, symbolizes Kyiv and its residents: despite external blows, the city continues to preserve its resilience, strength, and humanity. “The chestnut is one of the warmest and most recognizable symbols of Kyiv. Creating a gift for our guests to mark the hotel's anniversary, we wanted to combine in it strength, resilience, and heart. That is how “Mitsni Kashtani” came to be — a small, charming image of Kyiv and its residents, their strength and invincibility,” commented the hotel's head chef.
The hotel's anniversary and architectural context
The hotel explained that the idea of “Mitsni Kashtani” combines the history of the establishment with the history of the Ukrainian capital. Chestnut trees have remained one of Kyiv's most recognizable symbols for decades, and the Ukraine Hotel itself has become part of the architectural image of Independence Square and one of the city's calling cards. Thus, the anniversary dessert works on two levels at once — as a gastronomic novelty and as a visual reference to the city's identity.
When to try the dessert
The anniversary pastry “Mitsni Kashtani” will appear on the menu of the Ukraine Hotel restaurant on September 28, 2026. The presentation is accompanied by chocolate matcha leaves, making the dessert not only delicious but also visually striking — in line with modern pastry trends toward “edible sculpture” and themed signature items.
