Ukraine has returned the bodies of 252 deceased persons from Russian territory as part of another phase of repatriation measures. According to the Russian side, the repatriated remains belong to Ukrainian servicemen. The operation was organized with the participation of specialized departments and the defense forces of Ukraine.

Repatriation Procedure and Logistics

The transportation of the bodies to specialized state institutions was carried out by personnel of the Joint Center for Ensuring Measures of the Central Election Commission of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The transportation of remains was carried out within the framework of agreements providing for the delivery of repatriated persons using road transport. Previous stages of repatriation included large-scale transfers of the deceased that took place in June.

Identification and Expert Work

Law enforcement investigators, together with specialists from expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health, will conduct a set of necessary examinations. The main task of specialized departments remains the official identification of each returned deceased person. The procedure includes forensic medical research and comparison of genetic data.

Departmental Coordination and Exchange Context

A wide range of Ukrainian structures is involved in the repatriation process, including the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the SBU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, and the State Emergency Service. Earlier, the Russian side announced the beginning of a large-scale body exchange, but these statements have repeatedly been assessed by specialized Ukrainian departments as requiring verification and legal evaluation.

Significance of Repatriation Measures

The regular return of the bodies of fallen defenders is of critical humanitarian importance for Ukrainian society, allowing families to receive official data and hold a proper burial. Despite the complexity of logistical and negotiation processes, the Ukrainian side continues consistent work on the repatriation of remains in cooperation with specialized departments.
