Ukraine has appealed to international partners with an urgent call not to delay decisions on strengthening air defense. This diplomatic initiative is a response to another massive attack by Russian forces on the capital and other cities.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga made a corresponding statement on the social network X. He characterized the night attack on Kyiv as another manifestation of terror against the civilian population. According to the Ukrainian side, Russia used about three dozen ballistic missiles during the shelling.
Second Strike in Two Days
The Foreign Minister highlighted a worrying trend: the large-scale strike on the capital was the second in the last two days. Sybiga noted that, having failed to achieve its objectives on the battlefield, the Russian command is intensifying air attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure.
In this regard, the minister called on Western partners to accelerate the transfer of additional air and missile defense systems, as well as interceptor missiles, to Ukraine. He emphasized that the speed of decision-making and deliveries is crucial under current conditions.
"Every decision that strengthens the defense of the Ukrainian sky saves human lives, while every delay leads to deaths and war crimes," Sybiga stated.
The Battle for the Sky as a Factor of War
The Foreign Minister also expressed the conviction that the protection of Ukrainian airspace is one of the key factors determining the further course of the conflict. In his opinion, it is the battle for the sky that will determine the course of the war.
"The stronger the air shield over Ukraine, the closer peace becomes," the head of the foreign policy department concluded.
Consequences of the Attack on August 1
Recall that on the night of August 1, Russian troops shelled Kyiv and the Kyiv region with ballistic missiles. The attack led to significant destruction and casualties.
According to official data, nine people were killed as a result of the shelling, and another 28 were injured, including four children. Destruction and fires were recorded in five districts of the capital: Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Pecherskyi.
