On Wednesday, November 4, a noticeable cold snap is expected across Ukraine, which will be most pronounced during the nighttime hours. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a forecast from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center. According to forecasters, the country's weather will be shaped by a powerful anticycron centered over the North Sea, which will bring a northwesterly wind and cold air.
Anticyclone and Rising Pressure
According to the forecast, atmospheric pressure will rise, and the northwesterly wind will transport cold air masses. It is this factor that causes the drop in temperature, especially at night. Mostly cloudy weather with sunny spells is expected in most regions, with no significant precipitation forecasted.
Temperature Background
At night, the air temperature will range from 0 to 6 degrees Celsius, with up to 10 degrees on the sea coasts. During the day, thermometers will show 4 to 9 degrees Celsius, and up to 7 to 12 degrees in the south of the country. Forecaster Natalka Didenko, whose forecast is cited by TSN, specifies that in most regions both at night and during the day it will be around +5 to +9 degrees, and up to +9 to +12 in the south, southeast, and Zakarpattia.
Precipitation and Strengthening Winds
Light rain is possible only in the extreme south of Ukraine, while precipitation in Crimea is expected to be in the form of rain, according to Didenko. Light wet snow is forecasted in the Carpathians, where temperatures will hover around zero both day and night. The wind will be northerly, at 7 to 12 meters per second; forecasters warn that strengthening winds significantly reduce the perceived temperature.
Outlook for the Week
According to publications, the cold November weather will persist until approximately November 10. After that, a warming trend is expected in most regions, but it will be accompanied by rain. Thus, the coming days will feature moderate daytime plus temperatures and a strong northerly wind, while minor night frosts are possible in some places closer to the weekend.
Climatological Context
Climatologist Vira Balabukh, head of the Department of Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute, previously explained that winter could turn out to be 1 to 2 degrees warmer than the climatic norm, although severe frosts are still possible. This means that local cold snaps similar to the November one do not contradict the overall trend toward a milder winter.
