The Ukrainian company Vyriy Industries has officially presented a new tactical reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle named Slavic. This drone is designed to serve as a reliable domestic alternative to popular Chinese commercial quadcopters that are actively deployed on the frontline. Developers state that the new device is capable of operating at a range of up to 30 kilometers and staying in the air for up to 1.5 hours, significantly outperforming standard civilian models under conditions of modern electronic warfare and active combat operations.

Background and Tactical Objectives

The necessity for a specialized Ukrainian drone is driven by the harsh realities along the line of contact. In certain sectors of the front, the so-called "kill zone" reaches 20 kilometers in each direction, making the operation of standard commercial quadcopters extremely hazardous due to the threat of destruction. According to the vision of the Vyriy Industries engineering team, the Slavic drone allows reconnaissance crews to operate at a safer distance from enemy positions while retaining the familiar DJI Mavic control logic for many operators, thereby eliminating the need for lengthy retraining of personnel.

Technical Specifications and Navigation Features

The device is equipped with a high-capacity Solid-State battery of 40,000 mAh, which guarantees a stable flight of up to 1.5 hours. One of the key features of the Slavic is its ability to function effectively in the complete absence of a GPS signal: for navigation, the system utilizes advanced optical positioning. The communication system supports a wide spectrum of radio channels, allowing operators to quickly switch to less noisy frequencies and maneuver confidently in complex terrain. For reconnaissance purposes, the drone features a daytime digital 2K camera on a 3-axis stabilized gimbal with 10x optical and 30x hybrid zoom.

Integration, Testing, and Future Plans

The complex is supplied as a ready-to-use system out of the box and requires no additional field modifications. The control panel supports integration with Ukrainian situational awareness systems DELTA and Kropyva, and also allows video streaming directly into the VEZHA application. The UAV has already passed initial combat tests in seven units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Currently, developers are gathering feedback from the frontline, testing thermal imaging modules for nighttime operations, and preparing for mass serial production and supplies to the troops.

Contradictory Data

During the analysis of open sources and media publications, certain discrepancies were identified in the estimates of the technical characteristics of the Slavic drone. While the official press release from Vyriy Industries and RBC-Ukraine reports a maximum flight time of up to 1.5 hours, some specialized outlets, such as LIGA.net, stated in their publications that the drone could remain airborne for up to two hours. Such discrepancies may be attributed to payload modifications, weather conditions, or the testing of higher-capacity batteries on advanced iterations of the platform.
