State-owned company Ukrzaliznytsia has announced the upcoming cancellation of several western-bound trains starting October 20 of this year. This measure is driven by the necessity to ensure the safety of passengers and train crews amid ongoing shelling and a deteriorating operational situation in several regions of the country.

Causes and Scale of Changes

As noted in the company's official statement on the Threads social network, the operation of certain regular trains is being temporarily suspended due to a significant decrease in passenger traffic on the most risky sections. The carrier's management emphasizes that all decisions are made promptly based on recommendations from law enforcement agencies and defense forces to minimize any threats to the civilian population.

Alternative Routes for Passengers

For passengers of the cancelled train No. 79/80 on the "Sicheslav" route, the transport agency has prepared a wide list of alternative services to Lviv. Travelers can use trains No. 39/40, 5/6, 3/4, 85/86, 41/42, 61/62, 261/262, and train No. 127/128. At the same time, for passengers of route No. 31/32 operating between Zaporizhzhia and Przemyśl, there is an opportunity to conveniently plan their trip with a transfer at Lviv or Kyiv stations.

Experience of Previous Changes in the Regions

It is worth recalling that earlier Ukrzaliznytsia was already forced to adjust schedules and restrict train movements in the Sumy region. Specifically, there is temporarily no direct rail connection directly to Sumy, so passengers are offered a combined "train + bus" logistical scheme. Such services operate on a daily basis, and no additional payment for the bus transfer is required — its cost is already fully included in the single ticket price.
