Ukrzaliznytsia is expanding its network of international routes, adding three new trains running towards Poland to its schedule. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the company's press service on Telegram. A special place among the novelties is occupied by the flagship service, which has been named after the prominent Ukrainian historian and head of the Ukrainian Central Rada, Mykhailo Hrushevsky.

Flagship Route Kyiv — Chełm

Train numbers 23/24 connect Kyiv with the Polish city of Chełm. As Ukrzaliznytsia explained, the choice of name is no accident: «We honor the inspirer of the Ukrainian national movement by connecting two cities that were prominent in his life, since he was born in Polish Chełm and worked in Kyiv for almost 20 years». Thus, the route symbolically unites two key points in Hrushevsky's biography, emphasizing the historical and cultural connection between Ukraine and Poland.

Carriages Built During the War

The flagship train includes modern, high-comfort carriages built in Ukraine during the full-scale war. The departure of the train is accompanied by the performance of the song «Our Time» by the MUR band, which, according to the carrier, emphasizes the importance of the fight for a united and free Ukraine. The new route thus becomes not only a transport product, but also an image-building one for the company.

Changes in the Western Direction

Alongside the launch of the new international services, Ukrzaliznytsia announced the cancellation of several trains in the western direction starting from October 20. In particular, operations are suspended for train No. 79/80 «Sicheslav» on the Dnipro — Lviv route and No. 31/32 on the Zaporizhzhia — Przemyśl route. The schedule review in this direction is taking place against the backdrop of the renewal of international routes.

Ticket Prices

Recall that, as RBC-Ukraine previously noted, the price of a ticket for the same train may vary depending on the carriage type, day of the week, and chosen seat. Passengers planning trips on the new international routes are advised to check current tariffs in advance on the carrier's website.
