Ukrzaliznytsia has officially clarified the rules for travel in specially designated women's carriages of passenger trains. Now, in such compartments, it is permitted not only for women and girls of any age, but also for boys who have not yet reached the age of six — that is, up to and including 5 years old. Standard rules continue to apply to older children: from the sixth day of life, boys must travel exclusively in regular mixed carriages.

Who can now ride in women's compartments

The list of people entitled to purchase tickets for women's carriages remains the same: women and girls of all ages. The only addition is the possibility of accompanying the youngest male passengers. The company emphasizes that women's carriages are introduced primarily to increase the level of safety and comfort for female passengers, so the right to purchase them is retained only by females, while boys under five are admitted as an exception.

Documents and payment for children's travel

To travel with a child in a women's carriage, the original birth certificate or a digital document in the state application «Diia» is mandatory. As for payment, children under 5 travel for free without a separate seat, while passengers aged 6 to 13 are eligible for a 25% discount off the ticket price. The carriage of domestic animals in women's carriages is governed by the same rules as in regular carriages.

Routes and network expansion

Women's carriages already operate as part of a number of passenger trains. Among the popular routes are Kyiv — Uzhhorod, Zaporizhzhia — Uzhhorod, Dnipro — Truskavets, Odesa — Rakhiv, Kyiv — Rakhiv, Lviv — Kharkiv, Lviv — Odesa, and others. The railway carrier continues to expand the network of such compartments due to high demand: from May 1, women's carriages were added on three more popular routes. The sale of travel documents is regulated by the Rules for the Carriage of Passengers by Rail Transport in Ukraine.

Restrictions and force majeure situations

The company reminds that the number of seats in women's carriages is limited. In the event of force majeure or a forced carriage replacement, a transfer specifically to a women's compartment is not guaranteed, so passengers should take this possibility into account when planning their trip.

Comfort and safety under threat conditions

In addition to expanding the network of women's carriages, Ukrzaliznytsia is adjusting the operation of its infrastructure under unforeseen circumstances. During massive attacks or an elevated air threat, when there are shifts in train schedules, all paid waiting lounges at stations become free of charge, and passengers are provided with free hot tea.
