Amidst ongoing mass attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, «Ukrzaliznytsia» (UZ) has updated its recommendations for passengers. The company has urged citizens to strictly observe safety rules and under no circumstances ignore air raid alarms. Railway workers emphasize that during shelling, human life and safety take precedence over train schedules.
Where to run during an air raid?
UZ employees have provided clear instructions in case an alarm sounds while a passenger is at a station or platform. First and foremost, it is necessary to find the nearest shelter. If there is no opportunity to hide in a bomb shelter, passengers are strongly advised to move to a safe distance from railway infrastructure objects. It is also recommended to avoid gathering in large groups in open spaces, as this increases risks.
It is important to understand that railway facilities often become priority targets for enemy strikes. This is precisely why, during mass attacks, train movement in regions that may come under fire is promptly halted. This is a forced measure aimed at minimizing human casualties.
Consequences of the night attack on Kyiv
The necessity for such strict safety measures is confirmed by the events of the night of August 5, when Russia launched a mass attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. As a result of the shelling, large-scale fires broke out in residential buildings, as well as in warehouses and office premises.
Particular danger was posed by strikes on logistics centers located near railway platforms. Deceased were found in these areas, serving as a tragic reminder of the risks of being near infrastructure during wartime. Due to the shelling, train movement was temporarily suspended, and station staff and passengers were urgently evacuated.
According to official data, at least 17 people were killed and another 36 injured in the Kyiv region as a result of this attack. The strikes caused serious damage to logistics: the sorting center of one of the major postal operators in the capital was destroyed, forcing the company to urgently restructure its processes.
Government reaction and air defense issues
The consequences of the attack were discussed at the highest level. Prime Minister Serhiy Taruta reported on an urgent meeting of the government with business representatives. The meeting plans to discuss the scale of the damage and support measures for affected enterprises.
However, the situation with air defense remains difficult. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his statement, noted the critical reduction in missile supplies for air defense systems. The head of state linked this problem to the insufficient effectiveness of protecting the Ukrainian sky during the latest Russian attack, making adherence to safety rules for citizens even more relevant.
