The European Commission has officially expressed its support for the new leadership of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Serhiy Koretsky on his appointment as head of the Ukrainian government, emphasizing Brussels' readiness for close cooperation. This was reported in a post on the social network X, cited by RBC-Ukraine.
Expectations for the new team
In her statement, the head of the EC noted that following the formation of the new cabinet of ministers in Kyiv, the Ukrainian side is expected to take new decisive steps. Von der Leyen expressed confidence that Serhiy Koretsky and his team would make the process of European integration a central element of the country's internal transformation.
"You can count on our full support in the process of implementing your ambitious reform program," Ursula von der Leyen addressed the new Prime Minister directly. The statement emphasized key areas requiring attention: the rule of law, energy, and other strategic economic sectors.
Political context of the appointment
The decision to change the Prime Minister was made by the Verkhovna Rada on July 16. 289 people's deputies voted for the candidacy of Serhiy Koretsky, former chairman of "Naftogaz" and "Ukrnafta". This event became a turning point in the current political cycle, causing a wide resonance both within the country and abroad.
Immediately after his confirmation in office, Serhiy Koretsky made his first official statement, in which he revealed details of his action plan for the first time. The European Union's reaction to the rotation in the Ukrainian government was positive, however, Brussels is waiting for concrete steps to implement the announced reforms.
Questions for the President
In addition to the appointment of the new Prime Minister, personnel changes in general remain a focus for EU partners. In particular, it became known that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will have to explain to European colleagues the reasons for the resignation of the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov. This issue will likely become part of the upcoming dialogues between Kyiv and Brussels.
