In the halls of the UN Security Council, calls to end the conflict that has long overshadowed the global agenda were heard once again. The United States representative, Dan Negrea, made a sharp statement in which Washington called for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
The Cost of Conflict and the Call for Peace
The American diplomat did not resort to diplomatic evasions, stating the heavy price the entire world is paying for the continuing war. According to Negrea, too much blood has been spilled, and many casualties could have been avoided if Moscow had responded to previous calls to end hostilities.
"It must end. The United States again calls for an immediate ceasefire, as well as for Russia and Ukraine to negotiate in good faith a long-term resolution to this conflict," emphasized the US representative.
Washington's Role in Diplomacy
A key point of the speech was the statement regarding the readiness of the United States to play an active role in the diplomatic process. Washington expressed its willingness to facilitate dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, positioning itself as a constructive mediator aimed at achieving a sustainable peace.
"Our commitment to peace in Ukraine is unwavering," added Negrea, underscoring the seriousness of the American side's intentions.
Moscow's Reaction and the Context of Negotiations
The US statement came against the backdrop of recent comments by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova. She stated that Moscow has "never refused" to discuss proposals for ending the war and is ready for dialogue. However, according to Zakharova, before proposing new initiatives, the United States must "clarify" the issue of the so-called Anchorage agreements.
This context gains particular sharpness against the words of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Earlier, he reported that in August 2025, President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin discussed Russian proposals for settlement, but, according to Rubio, it was the Ukrainian side that rejected the approach promoted by Moscow.
Diplomatic Activity
Parallel to these statements, active diplomatic work continues. On July 23, Marco Rubio held negotiations with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where the war in Ukraine was one of the central topics. As a result of the meeting, Lavrov put forward a demand to Kyiv's allies — to stop the supply of Western weapons, which became a new challenge for Western diplomacy.
Thus, against the backdrop of calls for peace at the UN, tension is growing around the conditions for a possible settlement, where each side puts forward its own demands and interprets past agreements in its own way.
