US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff stated that negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia will continue in a trilateral format at the technical level. He announced this on his social media page on X, as cited by RBC-Ukraine. According to him, the past discussions were of a constructive nature and will form the basis for further working contacts between the three parties.
A Series of Meetings in Oslo and St. Petersburg
Witkoff, together with Jared Kushner, held a series of meetings with Ukrainian, Russian, and European leaders in Oslo and St. Petersburg. The main purpose of the trip was described as advancing US President Donald Trump’s mission to end the war. A meeting with Vladimir Putin took place in St. Petersburg, during which, according to the American special envoy, progress achieved earlier during the meeting in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was built upon, and details of the peace agreement were discussed.
Return of a US Citizen and Framework Agreement
Separately, the American side expressed gratitude for the return of US citizen Stephen Hubbard, who, according to Witkoff, will now be able to return to his family. At the center of the discussion, according to the envoy's statement, was also the framework peace agreement, the parameters of which the parties continue to work out at the working level.
Course Toward Peace and the G20 Summit
Witkoff emphasized that despite the need for a significant amount of work yet to be done, the US remains committed to the cause of achieving peace. «While there is still important work to be done, President Trump remains committed to ending this war and achieving a comprehensive, lasting peace that will ensure security and prosperity for future generations», he stated. It was previously reported that Donald Trump intends to sign a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia during the G20 summit, which, according to available data, will take place in December in Florida.
Support Within the US Administration
The special envoy's position was previously supported by US Vice President JD Vance. Witkoff's remark calling Vladimir Putin a «humanist» also caused a widespread resonance in the media. Against this background, the stated readiness to continue trilateral technical negotiations is regarded as a signal that the diplomatic track between Washington, Moscow, and Kyiv is being maintained and moving into the phase of detailed elaboration of the terms for ending the conflict.
