Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastytis Budrys stated that Putin’s statements on peace talks are “not worth even half a kopeck” and called on the West to increase military aid to Kyiv amid ongoing strikes on Odesa Oblast.

Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia will not suspend combat operations against Ukraine even during possible negotiations. At the same time, he called Zelensky's invitation to Moscow a gesture of goodwill.

Zelensky stated he is ready to meet Putin in person at the G20 summit in Miami in December 2026, provided the Kremlin leader attends. The Kremlin has not confirmed Putin's participation.

The White House confirmed that a Russian official will attend the G20 energy meeting in Houston on September 14–16. This is a continuation of the first in-person contacts between Moscow and Washington at the forum since 2022.

Trump explained Siluanov's invitation to the G20 in Asheville as the U.S. readiness to 'get along with everyone.' The visit caused tension: Europeans criticized Russia's presence, and Siluanov ultimately did not make it onto the group photo.

On the sidelines of the G20 in Asheville, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent conveyed to Anton Siluanov that expanding economic cooperation with Russia is impossible until the war against Ukraine ends.

On August 31, Russia joined the G20 in Asheville (US) for the first time since the war began: Siluanov met with Bessent, Europe called it a "troubling signal," and the "family photo" was taken without the Russian minister.

Peskov stated that peace negotiations with Ukraine are "deeply on pause" and that Kyiv does not want to discuss Moscow's demands. At the same time, Budanov allowed for a meeting in September, while Zelensky named a diplomatic window lasting until the summer of 2027.

Volodymyr Zelensky named a 'corridor of opportunities' for the diplomatic end of the war — from the G20 summit in the US in December to the end of summer 2027, that is, until the start of the US presidential elections.
