Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Relations Department at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, presented a detailed forecast for the coming week in a blitz interview with RBC-Ukraine. According to her, the synoptic situation in Ukraine from November 7 to 9 will have a "rather dynamic character": a cold atmospheric front coming from the northwest will cause light snow and sleet on the night of Saturday, November 7, in most regions, except for the western ones. During daytime hours on November 7, precipitation is expected in the central, southern, and eastern regions, with rain mixed with sleet or local light snowfall possible in some spots.
Black Ice on Roads and Night Frosts
The forecaster warned that black ice may form on the roads during the night and morning hours of November 7, but it "will not linger for long" — during daytime hours, precipitation will gradually stop, and atmospheric pressure will begin to rise. The temperature background over the next three nights (November 7–9) will range from +2 °C to −5 °C. According to Ptukha's assessment, even such an indicator is "good" in the sense that the air will still warm up to positive values during the daytime hours. In the southern part of Ukraine on November 7, during the passage of the front, wind gusts of 15–18 m/s are possible.
Anticyclone and Transition to Dry Weather
Starting Sunday, November 8, the center of the anticyclone will shift over the western regions of Ukraine, and on November 9, it will move through Romania and the western Black Sea toward Crimea. It is this system that will cause predominantly calm weather without precipitation. The wind during the period from November 8 to 10 will be weak. On Tuesday, November 10, the temperature background will remain at the same level with a slight tendency to rise: at night from +2 °C to −3 °C, during the day +3…+8 °C. The wind will change direction to southerly, which will ensure a slight warming.
Return of Precipitation on November 11 and Further Dynamics
On Wednesday, November 11, a low-activity atmospheric front may pass through the territory of the country: at night in the western, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia regions, and during the day in most regions (except the east), sleet and rain are possible again. However, due to greater cloud cover, night temperatures will be milder — from +4 °C to −2 °C. After November 12 and until the end of next week, precipitation will appear from time to time: on November 12 in the western regions, and on November 13 throughout Ukraine. An increase in temperature is expected from November 12 to 15. Ptukha emphasizes that fluctuations persist, but "stable winter processes" have not yet formed: the country has transitioned into the stage of deep autumn with "a certain varying dynamic."
Context: Discrepancies in Early November Assessments
It is worth noting that earlier, information circulated online about the imminent onset of winter weather in early November, which the Ukrhydrometeorological Center publicly denied. Nevertheless, by November 6, a cold front from the Baltic actually brought rains, localized sleet, and gusty winds, as confirmed by both Ukrhydrometeorological Center data and independent synoptic services. Thus, the cooling announced in the forecast for November 7–9 is a continuation of the same atmospheric trend rather than a sharp deviation from it.
