This Saturday, July 18, the sporting world will turn its eyes to the British capital. London will host one of the most anticipated events of the season — the 11th leg of the prestigious Diamond League 2026 series. For Ukrainian fans, this day will be special: it is in the British capital that the key showdown in women's high jump will unfold.
Return to the battle with the main rival
For world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the London start will be the second in the current season of the series. Previously, the Ukrainian athlete proved her superiority by winning "gold" in Rabat, Morocco. However, it is in London that Mahuchikh will face her main competitor of recent years — Australian Nicola Olyslagers — for the first time in the outdoor part of the summer season.
The history of the rivalry between these athletes is full of drama. In the Diamond League 2025 final, the Ukrainian lost to the Australian, but managed to take revenge at the 2026 World Indoor Championships. Now, a year later, the rivals will meet face-to-face again, and the outcome of the new battle remains a big question.
Star-studded field of rivals
The lineup of participants in the women's high jump sector looks impressive. In addition to Olyslagers, another star of the Australian school — Eleanor Patterson — will compete in London. Also taking the start will be Serbian Angelina Topić, Polish athlete Maria Jończyk, Jamaican jumper Lamara Distin, Montenegro's Marija Vuković, and the host of the competition, Morgan Lake.
The Ukrainian national team planned to strengthen its positions by sending two athletes to the start. However, on the eve of the competition, Iryna Herashchenko dropped out of the entry list, so all the hopes of the Ukrainian fan rest on the shoulders of Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
