During a strategic meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors, Volodymyr Zelensky outlined new vectors for the country's foreign policy. The president identified the intensification of relations with the PRC as the top priority in the current geopolitical situation. According to the head of state, whether China maintains neutrality or shifts to Moscow's side depends on the work of diplomats in Beijing.
The China question: the cost of inaction
Zelensky stated directly that Kyiv's passivity in dialogue with Beijing could lead to fatal consequences. "We need to seek dialogue with China if we do not want China to fully support the Russians," the president emphasized. He warned that if Beijing begins to view its future exclusively through the prism of relations with Moscow, excluding other countries, it will become a threat to Ukraine.
This call to action sounds particularly relevant against the backdrop of reports from Western media. Earlier, The Economist reported that China is actively studying Russia's experience in waging war on Ukrainian territory. According to journalists, Chinese military personnel are training at ranges in the Russian Federation, and Moscow is sharing not only technology with Beijing but also data on the use of Western weaponry.
New directions: from the Philippines to Africa
In addition to working with China, the president instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President team to review the strategy for interaction with other regions. Zelensky noted that Ukraine has already achieved certain successes, for example, in establishing relations with the Philippines, but this work requires systematization and further development.
The head of state paid special attention to Syria. According to Zelensky, following the regime change in Damascus, the country is undergoing a period of transformation. Ukraine was among the first states to recognize the new authorities, and now it is necessary to strengthen cooperation to consolidate this success.
Latin America and Africa are also on the list of priorities. The president expressed hope that a new strategy for developing relations with African states would be presented soon, and Kyiv's presence in Latin America should become more noticeable.
Restoration and refinement
Zelensky called on diplomats not to stop at what has been achieved. "We need to restore all of this, everything needs to be refined," he summarized, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to foreign policy. In conditions where traditional alliances are experiencing strain, the search for new partners becomes a matter of national security.
