Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set a new strategic task for the country's diplomatic corps. During a meeting of Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv, the head of state declared that the national project to create the 'Freya' missile defense system must reach a fundamentally new level on the international stage.
Priority for Diplomats
Zelenskyy emphasized that promoting the 'Freya' initiative must become one of the key priorities for Ukrainian ambassadors. According to him, the project requires detailed discussion and in-depth analysis, as it represents a modern solution critical for the future security of the state.
"Perhaps not very deeply yet, but we must talk about this and examine this truly modern project in detail," the President noted, adding that every element of the missile defense system is necessary and important for the country's defense.
Response to a Global Threat
In his speech, Volodymyr Zelenskyy linked the need to develop 'Freya' with the current geopolitical situation. He pointed out that one of the most severe consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as a result of Iran's tactics, is that potential aggressors around the world have seen the destructive potential of ballistic missiles.
The President warned that the global ballistic threat will only increase, dictating the need to grow capabilities to protect against it. In this regard, the Ukrainian system is intended to significantly supplement and strengthen existing and under-construction air defense assets.
Coalition of 10 Countries
A key point of the speech was the statement about transforming 'Freya' into a common integrated protection system for Europe. Zelenskyy reported that agreements have already been reached with a number of states that have joined the anti-ballistic coalition.
The list of participants in the initiative includes 10 countries:
- Ukraine
- Denmark
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Spain
- Sweden
- United Kingdom
Furthermore, 12 manufacturing companies have already joined the project, ready to participate in the implementation of this large-scale initiative.
Expansion Plans
The anti-ballistic coalition expects to further expand its membership. According to the Ukrainian leader, the project is open to new participants who can strengthen the security of the European continent in the face of growing threats.
